Straight Hair Style Compilation

Happy Saturday!

I hope you all are having a great weekend. I wanted to take some time today to do a recap of my straight hair adventures over the last two weeks. I had way more fun styling my hair than I thought I would. So here are the deets!

It had been quite a while since my last trim and with the frigid Atlanta weather we’ve been having I figured the timing was pretty perfect to straighten my hair, do some maintenance and have some fun.

To straighten my hair I first of course washed and conditioned it. After that I blew it out first prepping my hair using the Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Flat Iron Protector. Then I sectioned my hair starting from the back and started flat ironing. Here’s what I used to flat iron my hair:

I love the Tool Science Titanium flat iron. My hubby bought me a Chi and I still prefer my Tool Science over the Chi. Here are my flat iron results.

Not bad right!? Now for the styles. What I love most about the styles I came up with is that they were all for the most part protective styles, and they took no more than 10 minutes to do! Ok, I’m going to number them out. Let me know which one(s) you like best.

Flat Ironed Natural Hair – A Look Back

I was going through some old pics and could’t help but feel extremely proud of my natural hair journey.  For the past 3 1/2 years I have embraced my natural hair texture and it has truly paid off.  My hair is more healthy than it has ever been and the growth has been incredible!

Here’s a look back over the past 3 years at the various times during my journey that I’ve flat ironed my hair to see my growth progression.

About Today’s Hair

And well…there’s really not a whole lot to tell. Today I decided on a simple twist out bun. I set this style with Eco Styler Gell last night. After deep conditioning a pulled my hair into a high ponytail and made several medium size twists using Eco Styler Gel. This morning I unravelled the twists and tucked the ends under securing them with a few bobby pins. That’s it! Really love the results.

Serving a little twist out definition today

On the natural hair style menu today we have a simple updo with a little twist out definition up front.

Just after posting a blog entry about saving time by not setting my hair at night anymore I decided to test my theory again. Yep! It’s still true.

I spent about twenty minutes last night twisting my hair. I did some smaller twists up front and chunky twists in the back.

This morning I get up and got to work on trying to figure out how to style this mane of mine. After about 25 minutes of playing with different ideas I finally find one I’m happy with. Here’s the final look today and the step by step:

To achieve this look I set my hair the night before with about twelve small twists in the front and eight chunky twists in the back. I used Shea Moisture Curl & Style milk and Eco Styler gel for the twists.

In the morning I unraveled all of the twists. I separated the chunky twists started on the right side and twisted/tucked the hair up and around. Then I placed a few bobby pins to secure the hair. The front smaller twists were swooped to the side and secured with a bobby pin. That’s it!

While I truly love the final look I think I’ll reserve setting my hair at night for just a few times a month when I’m craving curl definition. Other than that I think I’ll keep my half hour at night and spend it with this little guy ❤

Got My Hubby Behind the Camera!

I’m all about selfies but sometimes it’s tough to capture an outfit the way you really want to when you’re taking pictures of yourself. Sooo I was super excited to get my husband behind the camera this weekend. Outside of my sweet doggy photo bombing a couple of the shots he did a great job! Hopefully they’ll be more to come. Stay tuned!

Here’s a look at some of my hubby’s pics.

A Twisted Bun & Purple Face Beat

Even in spring I can’t escape my love for dark lips! Here’s today’s hair and makeup. A twisted high bun with purple tones. I have Revlon’s VaVa Violet and Berry Haute mixed on my lips, my shadow is from one of my BH Cosmetics pallets and earrings are from the World Natural Hair Show I attended this weekend.

Straight Hair Problems

It’s been less than a week since I had my hair professionally highlighted and pressed but it’s official…I miss my curls!!

Typically straight hair is fun for me for about a week, then I tend to get bored. I’ve been trying to get a little creative with my straight hair but my stylist did such an incredible job on my press that my hair is too silky and straight to hold a style!

I started Tuesday with a nice side flat twist but by lunch it just refused to stay!

This whole plan of keeping my hair straight for two weeks is starting to go down hill. I’ll keep you guys posted! In the mean time here’s a look at my straight hair this week. Rolling with a simple low pony today.

Highlighted and Pressed!!

I finally did it! Last night I got my hair professionally highlighted and pressed!! The first time I’ve let anyone in my hair in 3 years! Needless to say I was extremely nervous. I entrusted my tresses to a young lady by the name of Toya Rucker and let me just say, she did an extraordinary job!

She started with a shampoo followed by a slight blowout and some time under the dryer. Next she applied a product by Redkin called Chromatic using the foil highlight method. It’s actually a clear formula that lifted the natural color of my hair 3 shades lighter. It was very cool!

Afterwards she washed and deep conditioned my hair. Following that she applied a color called Golden Apricot by Redkin to all of my hair and I spent about 20 minutes under the dryer. She washed and then it was on to to the blowout and press!

Before she started she applied a product called It’s a 10 Silk Express Miracle Silk Leave-in. You guys I have never felt my natural hair so straight and light! I was in awe! After the initial amazement came the unfortunate part…the trim. My hair needed a trim fairly bad and although she was delicate I pretty much threw my growth challenge out the window. On the upside my hair is healthier!

So…all in all I am over the moon with the results! Here are some pics of the details.
