Put Your Fearless Face On

So, you know how when you get glamed up you FEEL stunning? Well, the same thing goes with fealing fearless! A big part of my holiday series which you can read more about here, is about embracing our fears. Not just on your natural hair journey but in other areas of your life as well. I don’t want us to just carry the desire to be fearless, but rather to actually take action towards relinquishing our fears and going for it! The new year is fast approaching and there is no time like the present to confront your fears, whatever they may be, and do something about them.

So, to give you all a some encouragement and Christian inspiration, put your fearless faces on and check out this great Curly Christians read on letting your faith be bigger than your fears here.

XOXO

Repping Fro Friday in the “A”!!

Hello loves!

Well, my family and I have officially moved to Atlanta! I’m so excited about this next chapter of our lives. God has been at the forefront of this move and we will continue to look to Him for guidance.

I was off from work all week to get us all settled in. Things have been great so far. I love our new apartment despite how much smaller it is from our house in FL. It’s perfect…for now.

I had the pleasure of running into natural hair icon and inspiration Natural Chica aka Nikki Mae in the grocery store. I spotted here mega fro a mile away. Kinda made my week!

And now in honor of Fro Friday I’m still rocking my fro in the “A”!!! Here are some pics.

Instagram Identity CHRISTless

I think we can all agree that there’s no shortage of beautiful people on Instagram. Whether their interest is in fashion, fitness, beauty, art or maybe a funky eclectic look at life in general, you can’t deny them. They are there, the beauties of the world. A challenge comes however, when you fail to recognize yourself as one of those beautiful people. When you are fooled into believing that the body, head of hair or face that you are envying is perfect. When you discount yourself, your beauty, your physical attributes or even your hustle! When you let the fact that you are a complete bad ass grinding every day fall by the waste side because you’ve determined that based on some random photo uploaded to an application called Instagram, you aren’t good enough. This, my friends is a direct byproduct of not knowing who you are in Christ.

As an extremely visual person I happen to really enjoy Instagram. I seriously believe the application was made for people like me. From a health, beauty, hair and makeup perspective its focus on imagery and photography inspires me every day. Whether the photos have been extraordinarily altered or not this app never fails to give me ideas that get my creative juices flowing. Much like most other Medias however, there’s another side of Instagram that seems to be challenging the self-esteem and self-worth of many individuals around the world. The answer to this identity struggle, this lack of confidence, is to build a relationship with Christ.

Once you get to know Him, how absolutely beautiful He formed you and how beautiful you still are despite what you’ve been through, then you can begin to appreciate His other creations without feeling inferior. When you grow to understand that you were fearfully and wonderfully made and discover who God has called you to be, no one can make you feel anything less than what you are, royalty.

My tresses are my crown

Its not perfectly coiled nor does it have the perfect pattern

It’s kinky yet and still somehow reminds me of cotton

I doubt that any company would chose my imperfect curls to represent their brand

But, all of that is ok with me, because my head of natural hair was perfectly formed by a king!

I love every kink, curl and coil so much despite who puts it down.

I’m a child of the most high God and my tresses are my crown!

The Monday Motto

While the rest of the world seems to be hating on Mondays, here I am taking them on by force!

Monday’s tend to set the tempo for the rest of the week for me. So rather than fight them, I’ve decided to embrace them. This requires three simple things:

1. A positive attitude: this one is fairly easy. I just wake up thankful. Thankful for my family, for life, health and purpose

2. A mean face beat: I always try to make sure my makeup is on point on Mondays. It encourages me throughout the day.

3. DRESS!: My Monday outfits should epitomize the Monday Motto, POW!

Mondays are the beginning of the week. They give me another opportunity to chase my goals and my purpose. Assuring I’ve got these three things handled helps me get out the block strong and on fire like a bullet. POW!!

Happy Monday Beauties!

I Motivate Naturals 2014: A legacy initiative

So, it’s been made pretty evident to me by Holy Spirit that I have the gift of motivating and encouraging others. I haven’t really known what to do with that gift since it was revealed to me but I decided to make a big faith move and put forth some genuine effort into this gift. In 2014 I’m combining my God given gift with my love for natural hair and self-love.

“I Motivate Naturals 2014” is a personal legacy campaign I’m challenging myself to carry out. I’ll be targeting several blog posts this year to all of the newly natural or transitioning beauties. Going natural is a big decision and it can unveil a lot of insecurities you never new existed. I want to motivate those women through their journey and encourage them to love themselves more than ever.

God is leading this initiative. I’m simply his vessel to remind his children of the natural beauty they posses. When I’m gone from this earth I want to have made a difference in as many people’s lives as possible. This one goes towards my legacy. So, lets go! Follow me and get motivated for your natural hair journey!

10 Natural Hair To Do’s for 2014

Nappy New Year Beauties!! As you go into 2014 here are 10 to do’s for your natural hair journey:

1. Love YOUR natural hair. Don’t fill up with hair envy. Love the tresses God blessed you with. It’s more beautiful than you realize.

2. Don’t take your natural hair journey so serious. Loosen up a little! Unless you’re a chemist and love the science of black hair don’t stress yourself out over making your own Shea butter or custards.

3. Have FUN with your hair. ‘Nuff said

4. Learn more about your natural hair texture. The more you know about your tresses, the better equipped you’ll be to keep it healthy and help it grow.

5. Try new products. Don’t be afraid to try a new product or hair line. You could be missing out!

6. Try new styles as your hair grows. Half the fun of having natural hair is the versatility it offers. Get creative with your curls.

7. Encourage other women wanting to go natural. Be someone’s motivation. Remind them of their beauty and encourage them to get aquatinted with their kinks.

8. Do NOT be a big chop bully. Be sensitive with your transitioning friends! Don’t push them to big chop if they’re not ready.

9. Use what you’ve learned in 2013 to take better care of your tresses. If you’re anything like me you had a lot of hair trial and error last year. Let’s do better this year.

10. Do NOT underestimate the importance of curly support. Stay encouraged on your natural hair journey. It is critical, especially in the early staged. I’ll be here to keep you motivated :o)

Behind My Face Transformation

My husband has always said that he loves my smile, that my face completely transforms when the sides of my mouth curve up. Frankly, I never really knew what to make of that. Did that mean that my every day “I’m just chillin” kinda face isn’t as appealing. Women have a tendency to overthink things and there’s no doubt that this has been one of those overthought topics for me.

Needless to say, I’ve spent a lot of time comparing numerous smiling photos to non smiling photos trying to figure it out. Maybe it’s my eyes. I’ve always had big eyes and they tend to appear smaller when I smile. Maybe it’s the subtle hint of dimples that occur when I smile, or the nearly perfect teeth that spent 3 years in braces. Maybe it’s that.

After going through all of the major and minor differences I finally realized that the true appeal in my smile is found in what lives behind it. Not just the simple feeling of being happy. Don’t get me wrong, happiness is great. But, happiness is only predicated on what happens. It’s more than that. It’s joy. And joy only comes from one entity. Holy Spirit. So now, I do my best to smile a little bit more each day in hopes of sharing The Comforter with someone else who may truly need comforting. In case you happen to be that someone today, this smile is for you.
