Argan Oil Wash & Go

Happy Friday luvs!

I just wanted to share the deets on a wash and go I did earlier this week that was everything! Here are the products I used.

Seriously, I discovered a new way to obtain a bomb wash and go using these products but the star of the show was definitely this product right here.

The original leave-in conditioner by Cantu has been a staple of mine since the very beginning of my hair journey so when so saw this Argan oil version, I had to try it.  I am so glad so did. Look at this hair!

So in love with this hair. If you want all the deets on how I achieved this wash and go, click here

Have a great weekend!

November curlBOX Test Drive

Hi luvs!

So this weekend I decided to take my November curlBOX products for a test drive.

Super excited to play with some all new Cantu products, I dove in. I started by using the Co-Wash to cleanse my hair. Next I applied the Dry Deny to my hair which is suppose to help lock in moisture. Then I applied the Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream using the shingling method to help my curls pop. Lastly I applied the Wave Whip Curling Mousse. That did something very unexpected. It turned my hair white!

I was a bit concerned about this. However, once my hair dried I ended up with the softest curls ever! Look at these curls.

Not that I doubted it but curlBOX came through again with some amazing products. If you’re not subscribed GET ON THE LIST
XOXO

3 Day Wash & Go Series

Hi beauties!

It’s not often that you’ll see me wearing a wash and go, but when I do you know I have to make it different! Last weekend I decided I wanted to define my curls. I used the Krystal Eco Styler Gel for definition.

This worked ok but I prefer the Olive Oil Eco Styler. It’s a lot more flexible. At any rate the next three days looked like this.

Day 1 – Messy curls

You can’t go wrong with messy defined curls. After all, that’s pretty much the point of a wash and go. It’s not often that I love day 1 hair but this was life!

Day 2 – High pompadour

Pompadours are one of my absolute favorite styles, so of course I decided to take my day 2 wash and go and throw it up into a bold high pompadour and pair it with some beautiful purple hues.

Day 3 – Head wrapped

A head wrap is a great way to take almost any style  and give it some flare. That’s exactly what I did with my day 3 wash and go hair. Although I don’t have a how to on tying head wraps my lovely @nellynelle19 has a great tutorial on tying headwraps that I took some tips from. You can check it out here

I had a lot of fun with these looks. Which one do you like best?

Talking Texture

Good Morning luvs!

So, Today I wanted to talk a bit about my hair texture. I don’t talk too much about it mainly because once I learned how to best work with and style my hair it didn’t really matter anymore. According to the typical hair typing scale I’d say that I have between 3c and 4a type hair.

Truth of the matter is I don’t have much of a curl pattern at all.  Defining my curls was always a bit of a struggle because the back (which is where my 4a type hair is) would curl beautifully with product. But, when I tried to define the front where the 3c type hair is it just never worked out well. You can see here how hard my curls struggle to really get defined in the front.

Now, wearing a fro was always a lot more fun although my hair would never “pack” the way that so many other naturals’ would. My fro always looks and feel like cotton! It doesn’t shrink a whole lot either.  This is why I believe it’s so easy for me to stretch my hair and keep it stretched without much of an issue. Here are a few pics of my hair from fro to stretched to straightened hair all around the same time frame of my journey.

The most beneficial thing I’ve learned about my hair over the years is that, it is what it is. I stopped trying to make it do all the things I always wanted it to do and started allowing it to reach its full potential with various styles. I will never have that gorgeous super curly texture or have the ability to truly shape and sculpt my hair into the perfect fro, but man can I slay an updo!  You have to make the most of what you’ve got, and I make it a point to do that every single day!

My Ideal Curly Fro

Hi Luvs!

I hope everyone had an awesome Independence Day! My long weekend started on Friday with hubby and I spending the first half of the day shopping for the new house. I loved pending time with that guy ❤

When I woke up in the morning I really felt like I wanted to go with a simple wash and go for the day. The only problem was we were completely out of Eco Styler which is generally what I would use. I was a little discouraged until I saw this sitting in my product closet

I had used this foaming mousse for a flexirod set and a couple of twist styles but never a wash and go. I decided to give it a shot. I wet my hair in the shower and applied the product using no particular method at all. I just got a hand full of product and ran it through my hair. The results? This BOMB curly fro!

These are the kind of results I would get from a 3rd or 4th day wash and go, the absolute best days for the style as far as I’m concerned. The bonus with this product is I can achieve those same results on day 1!! Not only that but my hair was incredibly soft! No crunch at all to this wash and go!

I was so impressed with this look that I attempted to duplicate it on the Saturday.  Instead of just applying the product to wet hair I tried to add some methodology to the process by sectioning my hair and applying the product to each individual section.  The results were nice but I think my no method messy application on Friday yielded better results

Either way I was very pleasantly surprised with my wash and go results using this product.

My Favorite Curl Defining Styles

You all know that I don’t do a whole lot in the area of curl defining styles, but l do enjoy playing with curls every once in a while. There are a slew of ways to get curl definition but just a few that I continue to gravitate to. Here’s a look at my favorite curl defining styles and why I adore them.

Twist outs & Braid outs

These two curl defining styles allow for some of the best definition on my particular hair texture. What I love most about these styles is that they are super easy to transition into an updo and can last for multiple days. You can check out the video tutorial for this twist out turned updo using Camille Rose a Naturals products here. The transition from a twist out to an updo starts at about 7:15.

Flexirod Sets

The most fun and flirty curl defining style ever! That’s the main reason I adore Flexi rod sets. The curls come out so beautifully and even though they don’t have the longevity of a twist or braid out, they’re so much fun to wear that I don’t even care! Lol! Check out these curls.

Bantu Knot Out

This is the curl defining style I have the hardest time mastering and for that reason I love them! Of course the curl definition is amazing but there really is an art to bantu knots. I seem to get a little better every time I do them. This is another style that doesn’t come with a long life span with my hair. But this look challenges me and yall know how much I love a challenge.

Wash and go

Last but not least, the wash and go. This style is great for longevity. They’re easy to transition into buns but not as flexible for styling as a twist or braid out. Either way, there’s nothing quite like defining your natursl curl pattern.

That’s it! What are your favorite curl defining styles?

Crazy For Cobalt

Hi beauties!

Today, the fam and I attended a BBQ which I honestly wasn’t looking forward to mainly because I had so much to do around the house. Fortunately, it actually turned out to be a really nice time.

To help get some pep in my step I decided to go with my favorite color as part of the OOTD, cobalt! I paired a pink maxi skirt with my “I am a woman of God” cobalt tee that I cropped on my own. I also decided to color my nails in SinfulColors “Endless Blue”. Love it!

As for my hair I haven’t yet loosed my curly fro at work so it’s pretty much become my go to style on the weekend. Today was no exception. Here are some pics

Pushing the Corporate Envelope

I LOVE pushing the envelope when it comes to wearing my natural hair at work.  I’m in a corporate environment Monday – Friday 7:30 to 4:30 so every day I do my hair in the morning I’m thinking of yet another way that I can do something a little more outstanding than the day before.  Being one of 3 african american individuals on the floor I work on, blending in isn’t really an option.  And I am truly thankful for that!  Outside of the fact that the Book calls me the salt of the earth, intended to offer a bit of spiritual flavor to an otherwise bland atmosphere, I love the idea of contradicting a corporately correct fit with a curly fro or super high mega bun.  I love being different.  My natural hair affords me the opportunity to be different every single day.  Holy Spirit lives in me and my every day goal is to change the atmosphere he puts me in.  Some love me and others love to hate me.  At the end of the day the only thing that matters is that I love me.

Don’t be afraid of wearing your natural hair styles at work. Don’t fear that they could potentially hold you back from advancement. God is your source, your job, is just a resource. Love yourself. Be yourself. And the next time you think about wearing that style you’re just not sure is ok for work…go for it. And don’t just wear it, OWN IT!

A thrifted jacket & Big hair

Paired this super nice thrifted jacket with this sort of snake skin patterned dress from Macy’s with pops of cobalt and purple. Topped it off with a beat face of purple tones including this incredible lipstick by Revlon VaVa Violet. And I can’t forget this 5 day old wash and go with tons of volume. Love! Happy Friday :o)
