The Faux Knot

Hi beauties!

Faux styles can be a lot of fun to wear. There are two that I especially love. One is the faux bob and the other is the faux knot which I want to talk about today.

This faux knot style is just that, a style that includes what looks like a knot, but isn’t. Here are a few pics:

This look works best for me on straight hair. I have done it on my more textured hair and the result is more of a pompadour, kinda like the last picture above.

As for how I get the look, below is a super quick how to of how I got the under knot. You can achieve different variations in how tight you do the twist and how you shape and pin the twist once it’s complete. The over knot is achieved just by pulling the hair up and back.

I absutely adore this look. Give it a try!

What’s With All The Updos Anyway?

As I was scrolling through my Instagram feed this morning it occurred to me that some of you may be thinking “Dang, what’s up with all these updos?” It’s funny, because I ask myself the same question sometimes! And every time I do, I come up with the same two answers:

1. They are more creative and well, more fun, for ME!

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love seeing a naturalista slay a fro, twist out braid out or head full of rod set curls! There’s nothing quite like it. But for me and my personal hair journey updos are just more fun!

There was a time when I was all about curl definition and achieving the texture I saw on other naturals that I adored.  But then, I just got tired of all that! I finally decided to accept my hair for what it is and started focusing on how I can truly enjoy my hair journey.  My discovery of updos was it!

Once I dove in it was like “Man! I’ve been missing out!” Now I get so easily bored that even when I try to keep it simple and just wear my hair out, at some point in the day I promise you, it will end up in an updo.

2. It inspires YOU with new ideas so YOU don’t get bored on YOUR personal hair journey.

So, I totally get that everyone isn’t like me. Not everyone can appreciate a slew of styles that are a little, well, out there.

Seriously, I know these looks aren’t normal. But what I want to do is to inspire you to STOP putting limits on your styling ability as well as your ability to wear a certain look confidently!  And while that effort might not appeal to everyone, for the individuals that it does, I pray that what I’m doing opens up your perception of what it means to slay so that you realize your own slayage capability, outside of what you may typically see.

Hope this helps clear up any questions in my updo obsession. Lol!

Love you guys!!

French Roll With A a Twist – DIY Tutorial

Good morning beauties!

Today I’ve got a video tutorial for the second top voted style from last week. I played with some different straight hair styles and this one got a lot of attention.

It was one of my favorites because of the chic look and the fact that it took  3 minutes tops!

As for a styling product, this OFX Beauty B5 Weightless Oil Mist is the only thing I used. LOVE this stuff for my straightened hair.

Check out the short DIY video tutorial for this French roll with a twist here.

Fun Flirty Curls on Straightened Hair

Good morning Luvs!

So last night I decided to try out something I haven’t done with my straightened hair, a flexi rid set. Typically I stick with updos when my hair is straight but I thought I’d give it a try.

When I thought about what product I should use to set my hair I wasn’t quite sure what to go with. I was trying to be really careful about not inadvertently changing the texture of my straightened hair back to its curly state by using a product with too much moisture.

I decided to go with the Carol’s Daughter Sacred Tiare Styling Creme. It is obviously Creme based but also on the thicker side so I thought it would be a good choice. I applied the product on each section of hair before installing the rods. I used my usual 7/8″ and 6/8″ diameter and 10″ long rods. I kept the rods in over night.

In the morning I took the rods out and was very pleasantly surprised with the definition. AND my hair was extremely soft!

Next, I separated each curl about three times. I tried not too over separate so that I didn’t create a lot of frizz.

After that I styled my hair by pulling the back up and securing with bobby pins. I love the look of flexi rod curls in my face. Here’s the final look

I’m not sure if these curls will last for the entire day but they sure are beautiful soft and defined now!

5 Extraordinary Crown Braids

Good morning beauties!

This morning as I was styling my hair I had the same thought that I have every morning “How can I take an ordinary style and make it extraordinary?” I am always looking for unique was to take typical styles to the next level.  It’s all part of that whole style innovation that I love.

Well today I decided to go for another unique rendition of the crown braid. I’ve taken a shot at this a couple of times before and although very different and may not be to everyone’s taste I’ve adored all of them.

While the standard crown braid focuses on framing your entire head with one single braid or twist I either add some unique aspects to that method or literally try to envision a crown and duplicate that look. Here’s are 5 of my most extraordinary crown braids (twists).

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

Different right!? So the next time you go to style your hair try to think of a way you can add a little flare to it and make it your own.
