Black Hair Magazine Feature!

Hello my luvs!

I’m so excited to share my first print feature in a major publication with you all today. Sophisticate’s Black Hair Magazine is the go-to publication for everything black hair. They feature some of the most amazing styles for all types of hair from natural to relaxed.

One of my biggest goals for the year was to get a print feature in a magazine, so you can imagine my excitement when earlier this year Sophisticate’s Black Hair Magazine sent me a message on Instagram requesting photos. I was so shocked! I immediately went to work putting together pictures for some quick, creative looks that captivate.  I had just cut my hair to start the restoration from my hair color damage so my hair was shorter than usual. I managed to still pull off some really nice styles that I sent over hoping they would love them.

Every month that passed I would purchase this amazing publication full of trending and forward styles wondering if I would see my face. This past Sunday, that day came!

You should have seen me in Publix trying to FaceTime hubby. It was hilarious!  Almost a full page dedicated to one of MY hairstyles. I immediately took to my social networks to share the news and glorify God.

It’s so surreal seeing my face in a major print publication. I’m so excited to have reached this milestone and can’t wait to see what God has in store next.

If you are striving for something, keep going and keep believing! Faith without work is dead. Do your best, do what you love and watch God move in your favor.

Be sure to pick up the November issue of Sophisticate’s Black Hair Magazine! I’m on page 72.

Planner Power

Happy Monday Beauties!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. Outside of some family quality time and an amazing church service, I spent a lot of my time planning for the week with my new planner by   ban.do.

I’ve been looking for a really cool planner to help me keep track of life and I found it during my NY trip in Macy’s!  I am loving this planner. Every time I open it, I get excited about planning. It has tons of fun stickers, a secret meaningless but super cute code, and lots of motivation! Take a look at all of this coolness.

From, upcoming blog posts, YouTube videos I need to film, Zavien’s baseball games to date nights, I’m putting everything in this planner. The idea is to be productive and not just busy. So, here’s to being more organized and having more fun getting there!

You can find this super cool planner here.

Male vs. Female Barbers

Hey luvs!

As most of you know my husband is the one who originally did my undercut for me. He’s also kept it nicely maintained for over a year.

Well, this year I decided to venture out into the world of professional barber undercut slayage. I’ve had the privilege of having my undercut trimmed by both a male and a female barber and thought I’d run through some of they key things I noticed.

1. Ability – I can definitely say that both barbers that cut my hair are extremely talented. They both have great attention to detail and are extremely meticulous.

2. Creativity – I gave both barbers free reign over their designs. I wanted them to have the opportunity to get as creative as they wanted to.  While both designs were crisp I did notice more detail in the design by the female barber.

Male Barber

Female Barber

 3. Level of comfort – I consider myself to be someone who is comfortable with both men and women in general. However, in this particular case I did find myself to be more comfortable with the female barber, most likely I think because, she is a female.  There was more conversation during the process and she was more personable.

Overall I was very pleased with the final look from both barbers and their professionalism was on point.

When it’s all said and done my overall barber preference is….hubby!! I know, I know, he’s not a barber by profession but I love having him be such a big part of my hair journey and he does a great job keeping my undercut clean. I’m so focused on style creativity and coming up with unique looks that having designs on my undercut just isn’t that important to me. Not to mention that hubby and I have a ton of fun together.

That’s it for now luvs.

Going For Gray

Hi luvs,

One of my absolute favorite colors to rock, especially for fall is gray. Gray tones are super chic and classic. Not only do I love styling my outfits staring this color, I also love using this color as a statement lippie. And today I want to share my favorite gray toned lippie, Petit Four by ColorPop Cosmetics

This is a beautiful color from ColorPop’s Ultra Satin Line. Although this color does kiss off a little the finish appears matter which I love.

Here are a couple of different ways that I’ve paired this beautiful lippie with two of my favorite Jordana liners, Blue Devine & Plush Plum. Even though Blue Devine is an eyeliner I adore it for lips.

The application is super smooth and the finish is perfect! I love this lippie.  This color is also stunning straight up, all by itself.

If you’re looking for a gray lippie I would definitely recommend  this one. I know I’ll be reaching for it a lot this fall.

Sissy & Me In The City – Day 4

Happy Labor Day luvs!

Yesterday was filled with amazing food and an even more amazing show! We started the day off with brunch at a restaurant called The Smith. It was a really cool spot with some unique but delicious food.  I decided on the jalapeño cheese grits, eggs and sugar bacon.

Oh my goodness, it was so decadent and delicious! After brunch we made a quick stop back at the hotel and then it was off to Time Square to the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre to see The Color Purple.

Headlining the show was Cynthia Erivo as Celie, Danielle Brooks as Sofia and Heather Headley as Shug Avery.  The job they did was absolutely phenomenal!  I was blown away by the performance. If you have the opportunity to see it I highly recommend it.

After being thoroughly entertained we caught the subway uptown to Harlem for dinner at Sylvia’s Soulfood Restaurant where I partook in some of the most amazing collard greens, macaroni and cheese, fried shrimp and catfish EVER!  Seriously, it was love at first bite.

After our tummies were full we decided to go back to the hotel and rest where we spent the rest of the night watching football and food network. Sounds boring but we had a lot of fun and some great quality time.

Today we’ll be heading home. Four days was the perfect amount of time. Now, I totally miss my guys and am ready to head back.

I’m so grateful for my amazing hubby who suggested this trip and made it happen for us. My sister and I had such a great time here in the big city. Thanks for following our journey! I’ll be back with more hair and beauty content this week.

XOXO,

Sissy & Me In The City – Day 3

Helloooo luvs,

Another day down in NYC! Sissy and I spent most of the day shopping in Time Square. We started off by taking the train into the city which was a new experience for my sister. She was so excited.

Time Square is pretty awesome and you really need several days to take it all in. Nevertheless when we made it into the city we hit up some key stores like Forever 21, H&M, and my favorite drugstore Walgreens. Each was at least 3 stories! Yes, even Walgreens! It was crazy. It was a little overwhelming but I picked up a little something from each store and managed not to do too much damage.

After shopping at those stores we decided to have some lunch. On the menu, New York’s best hot dogs, sangria and wine. The sangria was phenomenal!

After lunch we made our way further down Broadway until we ran into Macy’s, The World’s Largest Store.

Talk about overwhelming! This store is massive taking up an entire city block with 11 floors. We were only able to cover half of those before we gave up.  After about 4 hours of shopping we decided to head back to the hotel to rest.

We chilled out for a while then decided to have a classic New York City pizza. We ordered a meat lovers pizza from La Bellezza. It was delicious.

After eating and watching several upsets on College Game Day we started getting ready for the night. We booked reservations at 808 Penthouse a rooftop restaurant lounge in Queens. I pulled out lots of sequins for the evening.

On the way there I was able to capture this beautiful shot.

As for 808 Penthouse, it was pretty impressive with amazing views.

As sushi lovers we decided to get our fix and tried 2 different rolls. For drinks we both had the Pacific Sangria With sake, peach and sparkling rose. Yum!

Afterwards we decided to call it a night. We had a nice full day and was able to enjoy some great night time city views, with sushi and sangria. We felt accomplished. Next up day 4!

XOXO
