My Tried & True

Way back when, before the days of cost efficient product sampling with FULL SIZE products from my curlBOX subscription there was one brand I knew I could always count on.   Cleansing, conditioning, moisturizing, no matter what I needed to do to my hair this brand had a product I could use to accomplish it effectively and at some of the most cost efficient prices in the market. No matter how many products I try this brand will always be a part of my product collection. Cantu, my tried and true.

Last night I used some great products from this brand to co-wash, condition and set my hair for a braid out.

After cleansing my hair with the co-wash I applied my all time favorite leave-in conditioner. This stuff  has never failed me on delivering excellent moisture to my hair.

After letting the conditioner sit for about an hour I followed this up with their curling creme and prepped my hair for a braid out.

A braid out prepped with any other product I would probably put a little oil on my hands to help with moisture as I unravel the braids. Using Cantu products that step is totally unnecessary. Check out how juicy my hair is!

It is full of moisture and the definition is beautiful! of course I couldn’t just leave my hair like that, I had to put it up. So….here’s the creation for today.

All of this awesomeness compliments of Cantu Beauty Products, my tried and true!

My Journey To Shaved Sides & An Undercut

Today I thought it would be fun to take you guys through my journey to shaved sides.

Many of you know I started my natural hair journey back in 2011.

From there I went on a growth journey. I really wanted to see how long my hair could get. After 3 years it had gotten pretty long.

I was very happy with my hair growth and I loved my natural hair, but I was bored. So, I moved on to something I thought would fulfill my itch for change, hair color!

The color was gorgeous!!!  I loved the dimension it gave my styles and my hair in general.  I did notice a change in my texture though. It became really dry and was more difficult to retain moisture. I played a lot with products and styles and really started challenging my creativity around this time.  Being natural became even more fun.

Even though I was really enjoying my style creations, my itch for a more dramatic change was really strong! I thought about the fact that I work in Corporate America and how that might limit me a bit and started researching different ideas I thought I could pull off.  I found this pic of @kaorinik and that was it!

My hubby and I cut my hair the next day and I immediately loved it and kept right on with my creative style innovation!

I had never loved my hair more! It was edgy, natural, chic and me! I was so into my personal growth and enjoyment if there was anyone who didn’t like my new look I had absolutely no clue and couldn’t have cared less if I did! Enjoying the chic edge of the undercut and shaved sides so much, I decided to take it up a bit higher on the sides…yasssss!!!

Everything was great! I got even more creative and noticed that a lot of people were inspired by my style. I challenged myself to wear a different style EVERY day, which really keep things interesting. After cutting my hair twice I was really surprised how much hair I still had on my head.

I loved my hair, but decided that I wanted some shape! And that’s what lead to my most recent meeting with the scissors and clippers.

Since then I’ve even added some more color to my hair thanks to my MAY-KOVER curlBOX!

Edit

What’s most important to me is that I’m having a ton of fun and my hair is healthy! Whatever you do don’t try to guess what I might do next cause with me, you never can tell!

XOXO

Hair Cut’s Coming!

Hey loves!

Soooo….I’ve been thinking about it and I’m about 90% sure that a new hair cut is coming! Y’all know I get bored easily, plus it’s starting to get nice and toasty outside.

I had plans to get my hair cut by this great stylist out of NY that’s coming to ATL this week (@vincenzo_stylist) but as it turns out…that’s just not in the budget right now. Ah well!! Ya’ll know that’s not going to stop me.  Hubby and I will take to this head of mine and come up with something fierce just like last time.

I am still very much in love with my undercut but I’ve still got a whole lot of hair on my head!

I definitely want enough to do some creative styles with but I want more shape.

I’ve been getting a lot of cut inspiration from Pinterest and @thecutlife and have some great ideas about what I want to do, but no one will know for sure what it will be until I post results!  Just wanted to get you all as excited as I am. You’ll be seeing more of this very soon!  Stay tuned!

4 Years Natural & Why It Was One Of My Best Decisions

This weekend I celebrated 4 amazing years of being natural!! I can’t believe how fast the time has gone by. I’ve had so much fun along this journey.  I can honestly say that making the decision to embrace my natural hair is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. To commemorate my 4 year natural hair anniversary, here are 4 reasons why this was one of my best decisions ever:

1.  This journey has opened my eyes to gifts and talents that I never knew I was blessed with. Who knew how good I was at hairstyling?!  I never thought I could be so innovative and creative when it comes to hair. And to add icing to the cake I truly enjoy it!

2.  I can’t tell you all how much I DO NOT miss relaxed hair! Seriously! One of the things I love most about my natural hair is the versatility and endless options for styling. I never realized how limited I was with relaxed hair.

3.  Never would I have thought that going natural would lead me right into one of my greatest life purposes, Curly Christians.  This platform & network is bridging the gap between natural hair, fashion and the gospel of Christ. I am so honored that God entrusted this entity to me.

4.  Lastly, this natural hair journey has given me a big opportunity to inspire thousands and thousands of people. Being an inspiration for other women is an amazing thing. I don’t take it lightly.

That’s it! 4 years, 4 reasons why being natural has made my life so much better. Let’s see what another year of natural will uncover!

A Little Twist To The Crown Braid

Good morning loves!

Today’s hair is a little unusual for me in that it is not stretched…at all! I was a little lazy this weekend and didn’t wash my hair until this morning. Because of that, my hair is styled wet. I brought back out the Dove Creme Serum and Dark and Lovely Easy Twist Gel N Butter that I got in the March curlBOX and used it to style today’s hair.

As for the style I decided to put a little twist on the crown/halo braid (literally). The style is a total of 3 flat twists that I pulled and pinned into this unique style.

Retro Hair & Menswear

Good Morning loves!

I’ve been out of commission for a bit because I’ve been under the weather but I’m trying to work my way back into some normalcy! Today I’m wearing this retro hairstyle paired with a mens Claiborne button down and a charcole blazer both thrifted from the Good Will.  I am absolutely in love with this look. This Week’s Best – Mini Twists

Hello beauties!

I hope you all had a great Saturday. Today I wanted to show you all how I styled my mini twists this week. Although my twists were very defiant and wanted to do what they wanted pretty much every day, I still had a lot of fun playing with different looks.

So let’s take a look at each style!

If have to say that the best of the week for me was Tuesday’s look. I loved the shape of this style. I had a bit of an edgy look going on that day and it just all came together nicely in my opinion. What’s your favorite?
