Cantu Shea Butter Flat Iron Spray Review

I had not so secretly been wanting to straighten my hair and although it goes against my growth challenge rules I decided to take advantage of the cool FL weather went for it. Typically when I straighten my hair I use Palmers Olive Oil Hair Milk. This round I tried out a new product from the Cantu line.

I purchased the Cantu Shea Butter Flat Iron Spray from Walgreens and although I can’t recall the exact price it was very reasonably priced (under $10).  I purchased this product because I absolutely love the Cantu Leave-in Conditioner as well as the Cantu Hair Lotion. The product description talked about it being a great heat protectant which was extremely important to me, especially during this growth challenge, and since I’ve had such great experiences with the other products I figured, why not.  I ended up having mixed feelings about this product.

To begin I co-washed my hair with Tresemme Flawless Curls, applied the Cantu Leave-in Conditioner and let it sit for an hour.  After it was almost completely dry I finished it off with the blow dryer on a low heat setting. I then started the flat iron process in small sections starting from the back.  After applying the Cantu Flat Iron Spray I immediately noticed that the product was extremely sticky which was very unusual to me. I did one pass of the flat iron through my hair and I could tell the product had heavily coated my hair.  As a result the single heat pass left my hair straight and shiny, but also stiff, hence my mixed feelings about this product.

In the end, I loved the results. I found that if I finger combed my hair after flat ironing it did loosen up. Not an ideal mandatory step in the process to obtain SOFT straight hair but it wasn’t horrible either. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate this product around a 6 or 7.

Although my hair was straight I did do my best to keep it protected by trying out some new low manipulation flat twist styles that I absolutely loved! Here’s a look at the Cantu Flat Iron Spray and some of the styles I came up with!

A Classic Style for My Bestie’s Wedding

This past weekend was my best friend’s wedding, and it was perfect.  I felt so honored to be her Matron of Honor.  There was a bit of a struggle on my end as to whether I should straighten my hair for the wedding or go with a natural up do.  So, I left it up to the bride and she wanted me to go with a classic up do, so that’s exactly what I did.  Here are some pics from start to the final look.  She was very pleased which was my number one goal.  I used the Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion and Eco Styler with Olive Oil to achieve this look.

Growth Challenge Update

It’s been a little over a month since I decided to go hard with a 6 month growth challenge.  Since then I’ve been pretty consistent with the rules I set in place for myself.  Lots of protective styling, H2O, vitamins, etc. and so far it definitely seems to be paying off.

The weather here in Florida has been in the low 70s, perfect for straight hair.  And so, I couldn’t help myself.  I tried a new product from the Cantu line (stay tuned for a review) and decided to straighten my hair.  I was extremely happy with the results.  Although there was heat application, I took care of my hair during the process and my straight hair has offered me some incredible motivation to continue the challenge.  Check out the comparison from when I first started the challenge to now. My hair is noticeably longer and more healthy after only 1 month!   I’m definitely feeling encouraged!

So Twisted

I absolutely love the bun life. I have a different bun for every day of the week.  But this week, I decided to do small twists as my primary protective style.

These twists took me about 4 hours to do.  I twisted on co-washed and conditioned hair (Tresemme Flawless Curls and Cantu leave-in).  Typically when I do these twists I prefer to use a locking creme like Carol’s Daughter Loc Butter along with my Eco Styler gel.  It just so happens that I was out of both of these fabulous products but was still committed to getting the twists done before the week began. I ended up only using Cantu’s Grow Strong Strengthening Treatment, a product I am heavily relying on during my growth challenge.  Consequently, because I didn’t use anything to really lock these twists in, I don’t expect them to last very long at all.  I’ll be really happy to make it to Friday.  Personally, I think that four hours of twisting for 4-5 days of not having to really do anything to my hair is a pretty great trade-off, but that’s just me!

I am moisturizing and sealing my ends at least every other day, if not every day with Bioinfusion Olive Oil Shine Serum and the Grow Strong Strengthening Treatment, Cantu’s Creamy Hair Lotion or Motions Hydrate My Curls Hair Pudding.

That’s about it!  Still protective styling and treating my hair for maximum growth! Off to drink two cups of water and take my vitamins. Let me know if you’d like to see a tutorial on these twists.  Be you beauties!
