My Tried & True

Way back when, before the days of cost efficient product sampling with FULL SIZE products from my curlBOX subscription there was one brand I knew I could always count on.   Cleansing, conditioning, moisturizing, no matter what I needed to do to my hair this brand had a product I could use to accomplish it effectively and at some of the most cost efficient prices in the market. No matter how many products I try this brand will always be a part of my product collection. Cantu, my tried and true.

Last night I used some great products from this brand to co-wash, condition and set my hair for a braid out.

After cleansing my hair with the co-wash I applied my all time favorite leave-in conditioner. This stuff  has never failed me on delivering excellent moisture to my hair.

After letting the conditioner sit for about an hour I followed this up with their curling creme and prepped my hair for a braid out.

A braid out prepped with any other product I would probably put a little oil on my hands to help with moisture as I unravel the braids. Using Cantu products that step is totally unnecessary. Check out how juicy my hair is!

It is full of moisture and the definition is beautiful! of course I couldn’t just leave my hair like that, I had to put it up. So….here’s the creation for today.

All of this awesomeness compliments of Cantu Beauty Products, my tried and true!

A Surprisingly Amazing Combination

Seriously, who would think to combine Dove and Dark and Lovely products? curlBOX of course! So, this morning I decided to take these two new products I got from my February curlBOX for a test drive. The results were like POW!

The Dove Quench Absolute Supreme Creme Serum really served as a great moisturizer. I almost always work with dry stretched hair, and this product did a great job giving my hair some moisture before I started styling.

As for the Dark and Lovely Defining Gel and Moisture Butter, well, let me just pause so I can collect myself to say…A-MAZING! I absolutely love the texture of this stuff. It really is the perfect blend of Gel and Butter. I can definitely tell that this will be a great product for twist and braid out definition, or even rod sets! My hair is so silky with this product. Love love.

The style is a total of three flat twists meticulously placed to form this great shape. I’ll do a recap of this week’s styles but I can already tell you that this is my favorite look of the week.

Here are a few more pics.

Cantu Shea Butter Flat Iron Spray Review

I had not so secretly been wanting to straighten my hair and although it goes against my growth challenge rules I decided to take advantage of the cool FL weather went for it. Typically when I straighten my hair I use Palmers Olive Oil Hair Milk. This round I tried out a new product from the Cantu line.

I purchased the Cantu Shea Butter Flat Iron Spray from Walgreens and although I can’t recall the exact price it was very reasonably priced (under $10).  I purchased this product because I absolutely love the Cantu Leave-in Conditioner as well as the Cantu Hair Lotion. The product description talked about it being a great heat protectant which was extremely important to me, especially during this growth challenge, and since I’ve had such great experiences with the other products I figured, why not.  I ended up having mixed feelings about this product.

To begin I co-washed my hair with Tresemme Flawless Curls, applied the Cantu Leave-in Conditioner and let it sit for an hour.  After it was almost completely dry I finished it off with the blow dryer on a low heat setting. I then started the flat iron process in small sections starting from the back.  After applying the Cantu Flat Iron Spray I immediately noticed that the product was extremely sticky which was very unusual to me. I did one pass of the flat iron through my hair and I could tell the product had heavily coated my hair.  As a result the single heat pass left my hair straight and shiny, but also stiff, hence my mixed feelings about this product.

In the end, I loved the results. I found that if I finger combed my hair after flat ironing it did loosen up. Not an ideal mandatory step in the process to obtain SOFT straight hair but it wasn’t horrible either. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate this product around a 6 or 7.

Although my hair was straight I did do my best to keep it protected by trying out some new low manipulation flat twist styles that I absolutely loved! Here’s a look at the Cantu Flat Iron Spray and some of the styles I came up with!
